Who we are
The Disconnekt is an independent technology and lifestyle website created by two journalists with more than 25 years experience between them. Chris Hall and Britta O’Boyle, both formerly of Pocket-lint, wanted to create a site that delivered features, reviews and opinions about tech, cars and beauty tech without the jargon. Our mission is to simplify technology, saving you from being bamboozled by lists of specs. We will tell you what’s important and why you should care, based on our experience.
Founders and Editors
Chris Hall
Co-founder
Chris has been a journalist for over 15 years. Chris has witnessed and reported on many of the big moments in consumer tech, from the birth of Android and the rise of the smartphone, big steps in the connected home, and the foundation of new technology standards. Chris has also written extensively in the automotive sector and has driven just about every electric car on the market. Chris has appeared on the BBC, Sky News, Monocle Radio, Times Radio, as well as publishing over 4000 articles covering technology, across titles such as The Telegraph, T3, Autocar and Pocket-lint.
Britta O’Boyle
Co-founder
Britta has been a technology journalist for over 10 years. She’s written about everything from the latest iPhone and beauty tech, to robot lawnmowers and smart fitness equipment. Britta has a unique insight into beauty tech and has published over 2000 technology articles. She has a fashion journalism degree from London College of Fashion, she’ll laugh at pretty much anything and you’ll never find her without her Apple Watch on, aiming to complete her Rings to justify an extra square of Dairy Milk. Britta’s work has been featured in The Daily Express, Daily Mirror, GQ, T3, Stuff, TechRadar, iMore, and Pocket-lint.

Who owns The Disconnekt?
The Disconnekt is wholly owned by Chris Hall and Britta O’Boyle. There are no investors or third-party interests, allowing The Disconnekt to be truly independent.
How do we review products?
We believe that we cannot review a product when we haven’t seen it, touched it and used it. We will never label something as a review if we haven’t physically tested that device; the recommendations we make come from first-hand experience.
Where do review products come from?
Many of the products we review will be loaned by the manufacturer of that product. The Disconnekt puts the reader first, providing an honest and independent review that the manufacturer cannot influence.
Do we accept paid placements?
We reserve the right to run, on occasion, sponsored content which is paid for by the manufacturer. This will be clearly labelled as sponsored. Paid-for content in no way affects the editorial independence of The Disconnekt and we will not be influenced by advertisers – our independence is our guarantee to you. If you are interested in placing advertorial or promotional content, please contact us to start that discussion.
What about affiliate linking and display advertising?
The Disconnekt will, in future, link to stores and may receive a small commission if you choose to buy from those stores. The use of affiliate linking will in no way affect our independence. As an Amazon Associate The Disconnekt will earn from qualifying purchases. The Disconnekt may, in future, use display advertising to help fund the site.
Are your pictures and stories copyrighted?
Yes, all content on The Disconnekt is copyrighted and is, unless otherwise attributed, original content for The Disconnekt. Where we use third-party images, these will be clearly attributed.
