Apple has announced the dates of its Worldwide Developer Conference 2025 where the company is expected to reveal the next bout of software features coming to iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro.
WWDC, as it is more commonly known, will take place in the second week of June, kicking off on 9 June 2025 and running through to 13 June 2025. Usually, Apple holds a keynote on the first day – so 9 June – where the features for the latest software are revealed.
The keynote – which has been known to go on for a couple of hours – is typically attended by developers, select media and some students. For WWDC24, Apple revealed iOS 18 alongside iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, macOS 15 Sequoia and visionOS 2. Home and TV updates were also announced.
But none of those were the key story from the conference – it was Apple Intelligence where the main focus lay and I suspect that will be the same for this year.
What can you expect at WWDC25?
WWDC has predominately been focused around software rather than hardware and while there have been a few anomaly years – 2023 saw the reveal of Apple Vision Pro and the 15-inch MacBook Air for example – it’s usually not a hardware event so don’t expect a new iPhone, especially as we’ve just had one in the iPhone 16e.
What can you expect from WWDC25 then? Well it’s highly likely we will see the announcement of iOS 19, iPadOS 19, watchOS 12, macOS 16 (which is expected to also have a different name), and visionOS 3, as well as TV and Home updates. You can bet your bottom dollar there will be some Apple Intelligence chat too. Apple said in its WWDC25 release that “developers and students will be able to discover the latest Apple software and technologies by tuning in to the Keynote”, but gave nothing else away.

There have been a number of rumours floating around of course. One of those surrounds a new HomePod with a display so it’s possible that might be revealed during the main keynote on the first day, but not available immediately – similar to what Apple did with Vision Pro in 2023. This would give developers a chance to build apps for the device, or adapt existing apps for it, should it arrive. If the rumours are accurate and it’s basically a HomePod with an iPad attached to it, you’d assume the adaptation of existing iPad apps could be reasonably straightforward.
There’s a chance Apple will announce the M5 processor too, and who knows, we might see an update to the Mac Pro too. The Mac Pro was last introduced in 2023, alongside the Mac Studio, but while Mac Studio was updated at the same time as the MacBook Air (M4) in March this year, the Mac Pro is still waiting for an upgrade from the M2 Ultra chip. There have also been rumours of new Studio Displays, and they make sense to launch alongside a computer like the Mac Pro that requires an external screen rather than being an all-in-one desktop like the iMac.
Three software features I want to see at WWDC25
I might not know what Apple is going to launch at WWDC25 this year, but I know three things I want. They are really very small in the grand scheme of new features so maybe if I say pretty please in this news story, Cinderella’s Godmother will come and grant my wish.
Are you ready? Here we go.
- The ability to close down all apps at once on iPhone
- Multi-user support on iPad – or even a guest mode like Vision Pro will do
- Some form of daily readiness score, energy score and sleep score on Apple Watch
Surely not too much to ask, is it?
